History

Millard Wallace Ickes, DVM, founded MWI in Nampa, Idaho, in 1976 to address the needs of veterinarians in the Northwest. As the word spread that MWI offered quality service and competitive pricing, the business grew rapidly. Today, MWI’s growth continues because we center our attention on the success of our veterinary customers. We know that we won’t be successful unless you are.

MWI is one of the largest veterinary distributors in the United States. Our national sales force of more than 180 Outside Sales Representatives and Specialists is complemented by an inside telesales team of more than 135 people. Product Lines

MWI carries products for every type of veterinarian. We distribute products for all the biggest names in animal health as well as several niche manufacturers for markets including ophthalmology, oncology, orthopedics and emergency. Small animal, bovine, equine and exotic practices know that they save time when ordering from MWI because we have everything they need.

Services

VAWDMWI offers a wide array of solution-based services, including Inventory Management with our SWEEP™ Inventory System and PRISM™ Inventory Education Program, capital equipment consulting with our staff specialists, equine compounding services through our alliance with Hagyard Compounding Pharmacy, and pharmacy labeling and delivery services on behalf of veterinarians through our AnimalRx Pharmacy marketed under the program names of AnimalRx, ProxyRx, Vetstreet Powered by ProxyRx, and Equine ProxyRx Online.

Inventory Warehousing

MWI’s inventory is centrally purchased for all warehouse locations, utilizing advanced forecasting systems and electronic commerce. Our 12 distribution centers are strategically located across the country to provide next-day service and later cut-off times in most areas. With 98% fill rates from our warehouses, our customers enjoy the benefits of a consistent supply and reliable delivery.

Innovation

MWI is known for approaching things a little differently. Examples? We don’t charge shipping on regular orders. We pioneered the AnimalRx large-animal pharmacy concept to help veterinarians efficiently service their producer and dairy clients in compliance with all Board of Pharmacy regulations and have since expanded this service to reach companion-animal and equine markets on behalf of veterinarians. We operate the industry’s most advanced Internet ordering website for veterinarians and their staffs. We employ a team of specialists who are dedicated to updating our customers and sales reps about the latest developments in capital equipment, bovine and equine product segments. We have Saturday call center hours. We offer an easy-to-use inventory management system to assist you in operating efficiently. In short, we work harder and smarter to serve you better!
