Vetsulin: New Feline Approval & New Canine Dosing
- Vetsulin is now approved for use in cats as well as dogs. You will note in the INDICATION section of the new PI that Vetsulin is indicated for the reduction of hyperglycemia and hyperglycemia-associated clinical signs in cats with diabetes. Full dosing guidelines for cats are included in the DOSING AND ADMINISTRATION section of the new PI. In addition, you will find the pivotal safety and effectiveness data for cats in this revised PI.
- The dosing guidelines for the use of Vetsulin in dogs have changed. The revised starting dose for dogs (0.5 IU insulin/kg body weight) is based on a review of the average dose required to maintain adequate control in the original approval as well as in current recommendations in literature. Please see the DOSING AND ADMINISTRATION section of the new PI for complete dosing recommendations.
